Democrat legislators in New Jersey are proposing two bills forbidding retail warehouse chains such as Costco Wholesale from limiting gasoline sales to retail club members.

Costco gas has been available to the public in New Jersey since 2004. However, the retail giant received clarification from state officials earlier this year that public access to its gas facilities was not required under consumer protection laws, allowing the company to reinstitute its “members only” rule.
