Sen. Blackburn is Not Racist. She is Right.

By Tim Kennedy, Gingrich 360 contributor Was Sen. Marsha Blackburn’s comment about China having a “5,000 year history of cheating and stealing,” a bit of a dramatization? Maybe. But her sentiments were completely on point. The Chinese Communist Party, and its sympathizers, must not be permitted to get away with crimes against humanity – again. Following the Trump administration’s decision to ban all cotton imports produced by the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps – a “Chinese quasi-military organization” accused of using forced Uyghur Muslim labor – Sen. Blackburn thanked the president. Then, the Tennessee senator threw one punch at the People’s Republic of China, tweeting, “China has a 5,000 year history of cheating and stealing. Some things will never change…” As the sirens went off in Beijing, Chen Weihua, the European Union bureau chief for China Daily – a Chinese state-owned media outlet – rebutted Sen. Blackburn’s claim, calling her a sexist expletive. Chen continued, parroting many of the arguments used by Chinese officials and left-leaning US politicians last spring when President Trump called the coronavirus the “Chinese Virus.” The Chinese state-media associate referred to Sen. Blackburn as, “the most racist and ignorant US Senator I have seen.” This feud briefly trended on Twitter last week as many flocked to defend the Chinese Communist Party and throw Sen. Blackburn under the bus. Fifty Shades of Whey, a freelance reporter, echoed the bureau chief’s remarks, saying “Marsha Blackburn is insulting 18 million Asian Americans… Racial discrimination needs to be abolished from the Senate starting with @MarshaBlackburn.” All this rhetoric is a distraction from the victims of the PRC’s state-sponsored slavery – the millions of ethnic minorities in China who are being forced into concentration camps and made to produce cheap goods. We cannot allow the Chinese Communist Party to unilaterally control the narrative within the US about its own domestic criminal activities. This is the same Communist Party that arbitrarily imprisons its own citizens for practicing faiths and customs not approved by the state, imposes its will upon the people of captive nations, flaunts bilateral treaties to cheat at trade and root out pro-Democracy activists, has permitted the state-sponsored killing of millions of “class enemies,” as well as countless other crimes against humanity. Sen. Blackburn’s comments are not racist, they are true. Her statement was made solely against a nation that has shaken our western democratic values to their core. Many of the same people arguing that Sen. Blackburn’s tweet was racist have unfortunately succumbed to decades of Chinese communist propaganda. This is reminiscent of the tactics used by the Soviet Union during the Cold War. By playing the “victim card” – something the Chinese Communist Party has relied heavily upon since its inception – the Party seeks to distract the rest of the world from its state-sponsored atrocities. Sen. Blackburn’s final rebuttal to Chen’s crude jabs best conveys this sentiment: “Chen, you’re a puppet in Xi Jinping’s delusional China dream for global domination. From Tiananmen Square to Uyghur genocide, Communist China is an expert at slaughtering populations. America will not bow down to sexist communist thugs.” If not over the past 5,000 years, at least since 1949, the Chinese Communist Party has pursed policies characteristic of transnational criminal organizations. Sen. Marsha Blackburn was right to shed light on China’s horrendous human rights record, which has unfortunately become all too taboo.
