This election has proven that polls can't predict an outcome or sway a society. -Newt What the Pollsters Got so Wrong With 2020 Election By Michael Barone New York Post The 2020 election exposed the inaccuracy of American public polling. The last average of polls showed Joe Biden up by 7 points against President Trump, but recent figures show just a 2-point spread in the actual popular vote. In the age of political correctness, there may be use for unorthodox polling techniques that account for a hidden Trump vote. Democrats seem unlikely to take the Senate, with all their hopes resting on two January runoffs in Georgia. Most Republican incumbents held their seats, often by significant margins. In House races, the Cook Political Report projected Democrats gaining around 10 House seats, while real results suggest that they are on the path to losing several seats. At the presidential level, Trump made significant inroads with minority voters, picking up 32 percent of Latino support and 12 percent of black support. Even in deep-blue California, voters soundly rejected Proposition 16, a ballot measure that would have reinstated racial discrimination by state and local governments, including in college and university admissions. It appears that Californians, like most other Americans, take exception to discriminating against their fellow American on the basis of race. Democrats put up big money to win back statehouses and lost miserably. -Newt A Democratic Flop in the States By The Editorial Board Wall Street Journal On Election Day, Democrats failed to flip a single legislative chamber they had targeted while Republicans expanded their majorities in some statehouses. In 2010, Republicans swept statehouses in Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Iowa and used those majorities to pass major legislation around collective bargaining, right-to-work laws, and school choice. Eric Holder, former attorney general under President Obama, later launched a half-decade program to win back the statehouses for the Democrats and control post-2020 redistricting, raising a ton of money in the process. Going into election night, Democrats aimed to flip legislatures in North Carolina and Arizona and chambers in Texas, Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, and Iowa. Not only were they unable to do any of that, but Republicans added to their majorities in Florida and North Carolina while gaining control of both the governor’s office and the state legislature in Montana and New Hampshire. Democrats are looking to the 2010 gerrymanders to explain their losses in the House, but Republicans flipped 24 chambers in 2010 in a map that was gerrymandered against them. The underlying problem for Democrats is that too many of their voters are concentrated in the cities and on the coasts, leading them to cater exclusively to progressive elites. Other constituencies, including those in the suburbs, look less favorably on a platform that involves defunding the police. Even if Trump loses the race, he can rest easy knowing that he secured more votes than Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and Warren Harding. Trump was able to do this because he put more money in the hands of working people and because millions of Americans despise Trump-haters who spearheaded the Russia hoax, the irresponsible impeachment, and have encouraged riots. The entire election has been tainted due to the sheer number of votes for Biden that arrived after Election Day. Also, the corporate media, including ABC, which smeared Trump supporters, is irreparably damaged. After the Russia collusion fiasco, the Hunter Biden blackout, and other artificial chaos the media tries to impose on the Trump administration, millions of Americans supported Trump because of how he was treated. An anti-establishment rage is growing with the discovery of every mail-in ballot. Thanks to President Trump and Secretary Azar, patients will soon be able to see prices before they receive care instead of being blindsided afterward. -Newt Trump Administration Shines Sunlight Into Our Health Care System By Carrie Lukas The Hill Much of our health care resembles a selling scam. Many important costs are concealed from patients. Thanks to action taken by the Trump administration, however, patients will now know how much they are supposed to pay out of pocket for any procedure, how much the provider will charge their insurer, and how much it would cost if they were paying in cash. Special interests, including health providers and insurers, have fought to keep this information from patients, and the resulting lack of transparency has fueled the rise in health care costs. Defenders of the status quo argue that patients suffering from a health emergency cannot compare prices to determine their care. However, more than 90 percent of health care spending is non-emergent, and Americans deserve to know how much consultation and treatment would cost in those cases. Nine in 10 Americans want access to this information, including over 90 percent of Democrats. One might think that, with bipartisan support of that kind, the price transparency rules set by the Trump administration would stand regardless of who wins the election. However, given the strict opposition of the health care lobby to this rule, that’s not a safe assumption. Which is why Americans should press their lawmakers to codify price transparency into law as soon as possible. Americans benefit from competition between businesses. There is no reason to believe health care should be any different. To hold China accountable for human rights violations, policymakers on Capitol Hill need to think beyond existing tools. This necessity is indicative of our broader China challenge: moving from reactive confrontation to proactive competition. -Newt How to Hold China Accountable on Human Rights By Michael Sobolik Newsweek Very few issues have animated US-China relations more than China’s targeting of minority groups like the Uyghurs, Kazakhs, Kyrgyz, and the Hui for systematic oppression. The Trump administration has enforced sanctions on elites in the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and companies involved directly in Uyghur exploitation. While those steps are effective, they will not save the Uyghurs. In order to do that, the US needs to target Xi Jinping’s signature foreign policy project, the One Belt, One Road Initiative. The initiative envisions an integrated Eurasian market with Beijing as the capital, reorienting global manufacturing chains to accomplish this goal. Countries such as Saudi Arabia, which has accepted tens of billions of dollars in Chinese investment, and Pakistan, which has openly expressed its support for China, have been seduced by Beijing. In order to hamper China’s geopolitical prospects, the US should sanction all commerce passing through Xinjiang, where the Uyghur reeducation camps are located. The emphasis should not be on sanctioning legitimate commercial activity but on trade that exploits persecuted groups, much like the laws prohibiting the trade of “blood diamonds” from South Africa. One Belt, One Road is intimately connected to Uyghur exploitation and the US should exploit that fact.
