5 Stories To Watch Next Week There are simply too many developing stories to follow in the world. To make things easier, we narrowed them down to five that you should really watch next week: First Presidential Debate Between Trump and Biden The first presidential debate between President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden will be held on Tuesday at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. The debate will be moderated by Chris Wallace from Fox News channel and will revolve around six topic areas. The issues discussed will be the records of the two candidates, the Supreme Court vacancy, the response to COVID-19, the economy, racial tensions and violence on the streets, and the integrity of the elections. Watch to see if President Trump takes Biden to task for implicitly supporting the rioting on the streets and if Biden criticizes Trump for the response to the pandemic. In any case, look out for prognostication on who won the debate and if either candidate sees a bump in polling next week. Supreme Court Nominee Hearing Schedule Likely to Be Announced Next Week Following the announcement of President Trump’s nomination for the vacancy left by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death, Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Lindsey Graham (R-SC) is likely to announce the hearing schedule for the nominee’s consideration sometime next week. Senator Graham has announced that the Republican Party already has the votes to confirm the nominee prior to the upcoming presidential election. Watch out for indications from Republicans facing competitive re-election races in November, including Susan Collins (R-ME) and Cory Gardner (R-CO), as well as Democrats such as Joe Manchin (D-WV) for indications as to whether they will vote for the nominee or go along with the expedited confirmation process.Senate Judiciary Hearing on Crossfire Hurricane Trump Investigation Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Graham (R-SC), will hold another hearing on Wednesday to examine the “Crossfire Hurricane” investigation, wherein the FBI looked into the Trump campaign’s alleged ties to Russia. Following a two-year investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, the Justice Department published a report declaring that there was no collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. Watch out to find out if Chairman Graham issues subpoenas for Obama administration officials such as James Clapper and John Brennan or asks for new evidence that sheds light on what went on during the investigation. White House Spokeswoman Promises Health Care Plan Rollout Next Week On Tuesday, White House spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany stated that the White House would unveil a new health care plan “in the next week or so”. McEnany mentioned that the plan involved increasing access to telemedicine and lowering the price of drugs. Vice President Mike Pence announced that the plan would also include executive action to protect access to insurance for individuals with pre-existing conditions, a focal point in the health care debate. Watch out to find out if the Trump administration uses its plan to counter Democratic calls to enact Medicare For All. Also, look to see if the administration includes suggestions surrounding drug transparency and conditional grants to states made by prominent Republicans such as former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. Violent Protests Surrounding the Death of Breonna Taylor Likely to Spread Following Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron’s decision to charge only one of the police officers involved in the fatal shooting of Breonna Taylor with reckless endangerment, violent protests have swept Louisville and threaten to spread. Two Louisville officers have been shot during the riots and are currently recovering in hospital in non-critical condition. Already, protests have spread to Atlanta, Ga., where the police department had to use tear gas to disperse protestors. Watch to find out if other cities face similar violent protests, how the police respond to them – and if the governors of the concerned states call the National Guard to help quell the riots. Also look to find out if local mayors or governors issue stand down orders to the police, rendering them unable to control the protests.
