By Michael Anton The American Mind Democrats could be planning a coup to steal the presidency — even if Donald Trump wins in November. Both Joe Biden and Al Gore have alluded to the military escorting President Trump out of the White House. These fantasies have gained traction recently. Just this summer, two former Army officers penned a letter advocating for “the 82nd Airborne Division to drag President Trump from the Oval Office” come January. Openly discussing a coup is a jarring move but should not be so surprising. After all, even Hillary Clinton said that Biden shouldn’t concede “under any circumstances.” With the media already in the Democrats’ corner, discussion of the military intervening in a presidential race is truly scary. Three decades of Democratic control has created an increasing imbalance of the economy in Joe Biden's home state of Delaware; its citizens will have an uphill fight against Delaware's power elite. - Newt Joe Biden’s Home State of Delaware Is in Decline and Out of Balance By Allen C. Guelzo New York Post Delaware is suffering from severe economic inequality. Democrats have dominated the state politically as governors, senators, and House members for years now, and the effects are apparent. “On paper, Delaware is the ninth-richest state in the Union, with a per capita GDP of $66,419.” But that wealth is concentrated in just a few places, such as the city of Wilmington, which boasts a high median family income. In other communities, however, median family income as often less than $40,000. Moreover, the state’s poverty rate has gone up while almost every other state has seen the rate lowered. Child poverty and inadequate education plague cities as well, with the state ranking 29th in the nation in the National Assessment of Educational Progress. The state’s small ruling class of technocrats sits above the majority of struggling workers, creating this divide. The state’s high-income taxes in Delaware do nothing to help the situation. This emerging two-class system of “ultra-wealthy” and the poor has left little room for a middle class, which has only worsened due to the coronavirus. Changes in state leadership are necessary for equality to return to Delaware before it’s too late.Portland's mayor is moving from his high-rise condo to escape protester violence. Unfortunately, local businesses can't do the same. - Newt Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler Moves to Escape Protester Violence — but Businesses Can’t By The Editorial Board New York Post Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler has decided it's time for a change of scenery. After rioters set fire to and damaged his apartment complex, Wheeler moved out of the building, much to the relief of its other residents. This move does not inspire much confidence, however, as business owners, law enforcement, and others must remain to deal with the so-called “peaceful protesters.” The effects of the coronavirus and the months of violence in Portland have ravaged the city, with businesses struggling to stay afloat. Assaults and drug usage have also increased as the situation continues to worsen. There is no word on where Mayor Wheeler plans on moving to, but a new home is unlikely to change his mind on refusing to stop the chaos in his city. An interesting perspective from Wilfred Reilly on the false narrative of a racist America. - Newt Rioting Over a Narrative By Wilfred Reilly Spiked Democrats refused to discuss widespread violence in America’s cities at their national convention. They discussed most other subjects affecting the country and the election but could not condemn the riot, because doing so would hurt their narrative. This false narrative being pushed by the media and the left is that America has been in the midst of a race war with racist whites targeting blacks. Simply looking at statistics, however, shows that racial tensions are not so high: inter-racial crime only accounts for five percent of crime in a typical year. The other undeniable fact is that the majority of this violence is transpiring in cities run by Democrats, such as Seattle, Chicago, and Portland. Another key part of the Democratic narrative is, of course, to blame all the unrest on President Trump. The president offered to send in the National Guard to stop Portland’s riots, but many left-wing leaders have decided that he created the violence, nonetheless. The claim that “left-wing riots, in left-wing cities, targeting right-wing institutions are the fault of the right” is simply absurd. Friday's blowout jobs report for August reveals a labor market and economy that continue to recover at an encouraging pace. - Newt The Jobs of August By The Editorial Board Wall Street Journal The unemployment rate dropped significantly in August — by 1.8 percent specifically. The economy also added roughly 1.4 million jobs over the course of the month. (Job recovery was much slower during President Obama’s time in the White House, in large part because Congress extended unemployment benefits for so long and increased food stamps and Medicaid. “The expansion of government transfer payments reduced the incentive for Americans to return to work.”) Retail, transportation, and hospitality were a few of the areas that saw the largest job growth in August. The economic recession caused by the coronavirus has not become a depression as many feared. Other countries are also seeing a boost in manufacturing as the world starts to recover.
