What Newt’s Reading: Tim Graham provides perspective on the convention coverage and the media's different approach to the GOP and Democrats. - Newt Convention Coverage — Media's Different Approach to GOP and Dems By Tim Graham Fox News The mainstream media’s pro-liberal bias was on full display during the Democratic and Republican national conventions. Several outlets covered the two events quite differently. For example, CNN extolled Kamala Harris’s speech at the DNC but was bitterly hostile toward Mike Pence’s address at the RNC. CNN threw out its motto of “Facts First” in order to paint Pence and President Donald Trump as America’s main problems. Jake Tapper, one of CNN’s most prominent hosts and journalists, said that Pence “whitewashed” the coronavirus testing numbers he presented. Of course, neither Tapper nor anyone else at CNN called out New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D.) when he spoke about the virus, despite his state suffering the highest death toll from the virus. As for Harris’s speech, Tapper said it was “truly historic and one of these moments that is going to change people's lives and inspire people.” Never mind fact checking; the media wants to bolster the political left and Democratic Party and tear down anyone who holds opposing views. In Minnesota, six Iron Range mayors voiced their support for the Trump-Pence ticket, appearing with Vice President Pence at a campaign event. - Newt Iron Range Mayors Pitch Trump With Pence By Brady Slater Duluth News Tribune Support for President Trump continues to grow in Minnesota, which will be a closely contested state in November. Several Iron Range mayors recently pledged their support to the president as he aggressively campaigns. A total of six mayors made the announcement as Vice President Pence visited Minnesota to hold a small rally. Several former Democrats have now swapped sides as well, including Virginia Mayor Larry Cuffe and former Duluth Mayor Gary Doty. For Doty, fighting for “jobs, benefits, and working men and women” is something the Democratic Party has lost. As a result, he is now supporting President Trump. Many people at the event praised the president for being different from other politicians and willing to take action when others won’t. After barely losing Minnesota in 2016, President Trump hopes to gain even more ground there to win re-election. Beijing has claimed that the Uighurs represent an Islamic terrorist threat, but the ugly reality is the CCP under President Xi Jinping is bent on crushing any possible resistance or dissent, religious or secular — and laughs at the idea of human rights. - Newt China’s 260 Concentration Camps Are Proof of Pure Evil By The Editorial Board New York Post The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has secretly built 260 concentration camps to persecute Uighur Muslims, according to recently released satellite images. China has been imprisoning minorities in camps for years, despite Beijing claiming that people in the camps have already been released. Zhenishan Berdibek, a former prisoner in one of the camps, said that he “wanted to die inside the camp,” with other prisoners feeling the same hopelessness. Xi Jinping, head of the CCP, must be held accountable if the world hopes to see such barbaric practices end. This violation of human rights is nothing new for the Chinese government, and it shows how China’s Communist leaders are willing to keep power at all costs. Numerous studies have shown that school choice, through charter school options and private school vouchers, causes public schools to improve — even in Democrat-run cities. - Newt The Year of School Choice By The Editorial Board Wall Street Journal The question of whether to reopen schools is one of the biggest issues to come from the coronavirus pandemic. Many families have been unsatisfied with how public schools have approached online education, realizing that “funding is tied to buildings and bureaucracies rather than students.” Republicans recognized how important this problem is and made sure to address it during their national convention last week. The main message was the need for school choice, whether it be for students with learning disabilities or for teachers to escape unions that force them to pay extra dues. Joe Biden, however, wants to eliminate a scholarship program in Washington, DC, that has given 44,000 low-income students spots in charter schools. These schools have been proven to double students’ scores on the National Assessment of Educational Progress. Other studies have showed that similar school choice programs significantly decrease students’ chances of committing property or drug crimes. Equal opportunity for education is a key part of social justice that can’t be ignored, and it is important that the GOP is willing to take action.President Trump has executed the most far-reaching change in space policy since President Kennedy's race to the moon. It will continue in a second term with further space explorations with the help of private enterprise. - Newt Trump Offers Promises for the Space Force and NASA for the Second Term By Mark Whittington The Hill One of the main features of President Trump’s “Contract with America” re-election plan is the promise to continue space exploration. While establishing a presence on both the moon and Mars may seem difficult, the president is more than up for the challenge. He has led the “most far-reaching change in space policy” since America’s initial trip to the moon. Rather than continue on the usual path of NASA-based missions, President Trump has turned to the commercial sector for help. This decision opens up more opportunities for economic development in space as well. Even Democrats have backed Trump’s space policies.
