Fiery Politics Part 2 – Trump’s Triumph and Biden’s Blunder

By Margaret Smith The California Democrats have been touting their climate change message this past month as fires rage on in California. President Donald Trump, however, has transcended the party divide on global warming to fight for action in California. Gov. Gavin Newsom and President Trump worked together to solidify a “commitment by the federal government to match California’s goal of reducing wildfire risks on 500,000 acres of forest land per year,” an agreement that signals hope for the future of bipartisanism. Trump was fully committed to finding and funding a solution for the fires. As Newsom said, “there’s not one phone call that I have made to the President where he hasn’t quickly responded… and in almost every instance, he’s responded favorably in terms of addressing the emergency needs of the state.” When asked about working with Trump, Newsom said, “he may make statements publicly, but the working relationship privately has been a very effective one.” This comes just weeks after Newsom bashed Trump at the Democratic National Convention and President Trump threatened to withhold funding from California for refusing to rake leaves. President Trump was able to look past his rocky relationship with Newsom for the betterment of California and safety of its citizens, a fact most media outlets avoid covering this close to the election. Trump’s bipartisan triumph is a stark contrast to Joe Biden and his plans to stop the outbreak of fires. Biden has a much more partisan approach, as seen when he remarked, “if you give a climate denier four more years in the White House, why would we be surprised that we have more America ablaze?" Biden blames President Trump for the high level of destruction the fires have caused, instead of offering his support for legislation to be passed in the state to stop the fires. Biden has angry words and finger pointing, but no real opinion or plan of how to attack the fires besides “spend $2 trillion over four years to spur development of more energy without increasing greenhouse gas emissions, with a goal of generating 100% clean energy by 2035” to slow climate change. The issue with Biden’s climate change plan is that Californians will not see the effects or benefits of that plan for “at least several more decades, if not centuries,” according to NASA. Does Biden want Californians to suffer uncontrollable fires into the next century while he waits for the nation to get climate change under control? Whether you believe in climate change or not, Californians must be supported today, tomorrow, and in the foreseeable future -- not just used as a tool to further the left’s mission to implement climate change measures. The politicizing of the California fires reached a new high when Biden’s running mate, and Californian, Kamala Harris visited fire sites in Fresno, California. She compared the scene to a graveyard, saying “when you look at a neighborhood that's been wiped out, those chimneys remind me of tombstones.” The suggestion that climate change turned neighborhoods into graveyards emotionally manipulates Americans into feeling morally obligated to fight climate change -- rather than focusing on what would stop the fires. Harris should be promoting our moral obligation to save this generation’s livelihoods by managing forests and removing the fuel that allows fires to blaze uncontrollably. Biden, Harris, and the Democratic party want to use this devastating situation to promote their climate change narrative and diminish President Trump’s ability to protect Americans before the election by calling him a “climate arsonist.” Yet, Trump is the only politician during these troubling times that has reached across the political divide to work with a Democratic governor and respond to the fires. Biden has made no such bipartisan effort, instead opting to use the devastation as an election talking point. The California fires should not be about the election. Instead, the focus should be on the residents of California. This is what President Trump has done – and what Biden has failed to do.
