To make things easier, we narrowed them down to five that you should really watch next week: US intelligence agencies examine whether Saudi Arabia is working with China to develop nuclear weapons — Intelligence agencies are trying to figure out whether the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is seeking to become a nuclear-armed state with the assistance of the Chinese Communist Party. Saudi Arabia is working with China to produce nuclear fuel, according to information obtained by spies. A newly completed structure in the Saudi capital of Riyadh is also drawing scrutiny. The kingdom’s closeness with China is similarly alarming. Saudi Arabia has been a longtime friend of the United States, and as the kingdom develops warmer relations with Israel, it is important to maintain the strategic relationship. Deadline fast-approaching for Senate’s coronavirus bill — The Senate is negotiating the next coronavirus relief bill and may forego the August recess until it’s passed. Indeed, Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) have told their colleagues to be prepared to stay in session as long as it takes. Republicans have complained that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) are opposing efforts to pass a smaller, short-term bill to provide immediate relief and continue negotiating afterward. As the Democrats’ HEROES Act demonstrates, Democrats in the House and Senate have not shown a willingness to compromise on a relief bill. Pelosi and Schumer have met with White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin to try to find a solution — so far to no avail. Jobless claims continue to fall as US economy recovers — Filing for unemployment benefits has hit its lowest level since the COVID-19 pandemic began. The pandemic continues to hold US workers and companies back, but the economy’s ability to recover amid rising coronavirus rates is an optimistic sign. Biden’s VP search narrows, with decision to come soon — Typically, vice presidential nominations are of little practical importance — beyond winning an election. But for Joe Biden, the nomination is different. NY attorney general seeks to dissolve NRA — On Thursday, New York Attorney General Letitia James announced that she has filed a lawsuit against the National Rifle Association for corruption and misspending and seeks to see the organization shut down permanently. James went on to call out four individual NRA executives and accused the organization of tax fraud.
