What Newt’s Reading As protesters demonstrated near her home, Seattle Police Chief Best called on the City Council to stop turning a blind eye to lawlessness and stop giving in to the angry mob. – Newt Lawless Again in Seattle By The Editorial Board Wall Street Journal CHOP, an “autonomous zone” in Seattle that anarchists sought to make a sovereign territory, may be no more, but the violence against Seattle’s police force rages on. Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best has been reduced to pleading before the City Council for the ability to intervene. Seattle’s politicians have ignored or encouraged the violent protesters, only reigning them in when they marched on Seattle Mayor Durkin’s home. This time, the protesters have marched on Best’s home, but the mayor is unmoved. Durkin has become the Marie Antoinette of Seattle. “Let them eat cake,” she tells the police, always refusing to act until it’s her own head on the chopping block. Joe Biden’s decision to hide in the basement can only work for so long. At some point, he’ll have to emerge, or voters will see his strategy as a sign of fear. – Newt Joe Biden’s Basement Strategy Will Backfire By Michael Goodwin New York Post Joe Biden’s campaign strategy has been unprecedented: He’s hiding and hoping that President Trump’s campaign implodes before Election Day. If his campaign team takes a look at Hillary Clinton’s failed run in 2016, they will see the errors in their strategy. Clinton completely neglected crucial swing states in the final weeks of the election, and she lost because of it. Biden’s new campaign comes off as lazy and fearful, with allies in the media calling for the upcoming debates to be canceled and Biden himself declining to attend his own nomination in Milwaukee. The campaign knows that their candidate is weak, but they fail to realize that their strategy is just as faulty as Biden is. He paved the road to the White House for George W. Bush in 2000 and helped him secure a second term. Now, Rove sees real danger in Nevada’s mail-in ballot effort, which could wreak havoc on the swing state’s election results. Mail-in voting, Rove recognizes, is a helpful part of any voting effort to ensure people are represented. Nevada is doing more than allowing people to apply for a ballot, however; the state is now sending a ballot to everyone, potentially including faulty or past addresses and the deceased. There is no reason to change the absentee application system that Nevada has used so many times previously — unless Nevada’s goal is to enable or amplify voter fraud, that is. Six weeks after the New York primary, two congressional races are still undecided. Also, undecided: Who is to blame. What is crystal clear is this is a preview of what a disaster mail-in ballots would be for a national election in November. – Newt Why the Botched NYC Primary Has Become the November Nightmare By Jesse McKinley New York Times If you need proof to buy the common-sense argument that an expansion of mail-in ballots would have disastrous results, simply look at the catastrophe in New York. New York City received over ten times the normal amount of absentee ballots and was utterly unprepared to count them. The postal service had difficulty processing certain prepaid return envelopes, potentially disqualifying thousands of voters. Thousands more were discarded entirely for errors made when voters filled out the ballots. A primary challenger has already filed a lawsuit after losing to Democrat Rep. Carolyn Maloney by 3,700 votes in a district that handled the election remarkably poorly. If mail-in ballots are expanded nationwide before Election Day, expect any losing candidate to file lawsuits against state governments. This would be their right, as the system will have denied them a fair, free, and accurate election. If Jeff Bezos loves liberty so much, why does his paper tout Chinese Communist Party propaganda? – Newt Bezos, Beijing and the Washington Post By James Freeman Wall Street Journal Jeff Bezos, creator of tech/delivery giant Amazon and owner of the Washington Post, has gained his fortune through hard work and the freedom that only the United States can provide. Despite this fact, Bezos stands idly by as his newspaper writes articles that can only be described as borderline propaganda for the Chinese Communist Party. “Trump views China’s Communist Party as a threat. Young Chinese see it as a ticket to a better future,” reads one headline. The article features fawning coverage of statues of Mao Zedong (yes, that same Mao Zedong who oversaw the murder of some 45 million people throughout his tyrannical reign) and young Chinese nationals taking selfies in front of CCP monuments. If Bezos wants to preserve our freedom as well as his own fortune, he would be wise to stop running such irresponsible pro-CCP drivel.
