By Dr. Ben Carson USA Today When he lost in the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary in 2016, Dr. Ben Carson knew he had to step aside for President Trump to become the Republican presidential nominee. Carson told Trump on the night of the last debate that he would be the next president of the United States because neither God nor the American people had given up on this country. Growing up in poverty, Carson was blessed with a mother who did not let him feel like a victim. He had the privilege of graduating from Yale and then becoming a pediatric neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins, where he performed life-saving procedures on infants. He achieved his dreams through diligence and by an abiding faith in God. Now, through investment in vulnerable neighborhoods, funding for historically black colleges and universities, and prison reform, Sec. Carson and President Trump are extending opportunities to other African Americans. A vote for Trump is a vote for more opportunity for prosperity. He was convinced by the mainstream media that told him Republicans were opposed to his interests as a gay man. He believed that President Trump was a morally bankrupt bigot. He thought Barack Obama had given the country a scandal-free presidency and that Democrats were the party of the marginalized. On policy issues, he supported abortion and opposed the right to bear arms. Once Trump was elected, he spent many weeks investigating the news sources he had relied upon and found them wanting. He realized that the political left ran a calculated misinformation campaign to keep black, brown, and gay people under the impression that they live in a bigoted society controlled by Trump and other Republicans. In advocating this truth, Straka lost nearly every friend he had, but it was worth it. He voted for President Trump because a vote for him is a vote for truth. President Trump's price-transparency rules will significantly reduce rampant health care waste, middle players, and price-gouging. Fisher New York Post Last Thursday, President Trump finalized price-transparency rules that require insurance companies to disclose real prices and cost-sharing information in advance so that consumers can make an informed decision. Along with a hospital price-transparency rule that goes into effect next year, this will unleash a competitive health care market using free-market principles. The hospital price transparency rule requires providers to post their discounted cash rates and secret negotiated rates. These provisions are accompanied by a billing transparency order that requires hospitals to reveal their billing practices. The opaque pricing power of hospitals and health insurers is largely reduced by these actions, giving choice and discretion to ordinary Americans. As premiums for employer-sponsored health care plans have risen 55 percent in the last decade, and hospital prices average 2.5 times what Medicare pays, the Trump administration’s steps to deregulate the health care market will reduce costs for hardworking Americans and leave the economy freer to prosper. This week, President Trump signed an executive order to restore patriotism in our schools. -Newt Trump Signs Order to Push ‘Patriotic Education’ on Eve of Election By Steven Nelson New York Post On the eve of the election, President Trump signed an executive order creating a federal 1776 commission to promote patriotic education in American schools. In the aftermath of the violent protests surrounding George Floyd’s death and the removal of statues of colonial and revolutionary figures across the country, President Trump announced the order requiring the Education Department to create the 20-member commission in four months to use federal resources to promote patriotic education. The order argues that a series of polemics grounded in poor scholarship have sullied America’s Founders and its founding, and that viewing America as systemically racist is undermining the work of abolitionist and civil rights activists like Martin Luther King, Jr. Despite its commitment to promoting patriotic education, the order acknowledges the local control of schooling in the US as some Democrats vow to resist the initiative. President Trump has previously accused the New York Times’ 1619 Project of using falsehoods to disparage America’s legacy and defile its story. Europe returning to lockdown is a warning of failures of a government-run/socialized health care system. -Newt Europe’s Covid Hospital Lesson By The Editorial Board Wall Street Journal As the coronavirus surges in Europe, the hospitals on the continent risk being overwhelmed, shedding light on the side effects of a government-run health care system. More than half of the beds in France, including two-thirds of the beds in Paris, are occupied by COVID-19 patients. French President Emmanuel Macron has said French intensive care capacities might be fully utilized by mid-November. Belgian patients are being sent to Germany, but German Chancellor Angela Merkel has also expressed concern about running out of intensive care capacity in the next few weeks. The vast majority of intensive care beds remain unoccupied in the US while US hospitals continue to conduct preventive screenings and elective procedures. The insufficiency of beds in Europe owes largely to the strict cap on hospital funding in Europe’s national health systems. Chronic underinvestment and rationed care lead to adverse outcomes during a pandemic. While many Americans call for a European-style health care system, the price patients pay in that system is substantial.
