The ideals of an adversarial press that holds the powerful to account “have all been subordinated to the protection racket that is coverage of Joe Biden.” The media’s behavior reached a new low when the New York Post reported on the emails obtained from a laptop which, according to reports, Hunter Biden left at a Delaware repair shop. The emails raise the question of how much Joe Biden knew of his son’s foreign dealings — an issue that a responsible news media would cover. Instead, at his recent ABC town hall, Biden was not asked a single question on the subject. Respectable figures on the center-left even slammed Bo Erickson of CBS when he asked Biden for his response to the story. Much of the press has dismissed the story as false or Russian disinformation, while trying to discredit how the Post broke the story. Similarly, the media has dutifully done its best to push back against the idea that Biden is opposed to fracking, even though he is on record saying exactly that on multiple occasions. The media typically prefers newsworthy candidates, but journalists have clearly thrown in their lot with the dull Joe Biden, making their partisanship even more blatant. Daniels, who makes tools and electronics for aerospace and military clients, added that, if President Trump and the Republicans win the election, then operations will continue as normal. One employee of the company, Stan Smith, was so offended by the letter that he decided to quit, noting that everyone has a choice to make their own decision. The letter evoked mixed reactions, with some employees saying they would vote for Trump and others objecting to their boss’s actions. In response to the story, Daniels stated that he had an obligation to tell his workers what could happen based on the outcome of the election and that his workers should vote for whoever they support. The media continues to spin the 200K death number without any context. -Newt Here’s How the Media Is Misreporting COVID-19’s Death Toll in America By Jay W. Richards, Douglas Axe, and William Briggs New York Post Recently, CNN has done its best to sensationalize the number of COVID-19 deaths in the United States, even saying that COVID-19 deaths are equal to having the Sept. 11 attacks occur every day for 66 days. A dull but less misleading way of representing COVID-19 deaths would be to say they represent a 13 percent boost to the 2017-18 flu season. The CDC estimates that about 177,000 Americans died during the 2017-18 flu season, either from the flu or by complications caused by pneumonia. On the same day that CNN ran its hysterical headline, the CDC officially posted a total 187,072 deaths attributed in some way to COVID-19. Deaths rose to just under 300,000 after adding in pneumonia and flu. However, these numbers do not account for the number of deaths caused not simply from a COVID-19 infection or for those who died from other causes but happened to be infected at the time. The CDC itself caused a commotion when it announced that the virus itself caused only 6 percent of all COVID-related deaths, with the elderly constituting the lion’s share of the group. Other COVID-related deaths typically occurred in people who were on average elderly and suffered from multiple comorbidities. Also, given that the US conducts around 800,000 tests every day, even a small fraction of false positives can inflate the active case number, without accounting for those who have recovered from the virus or those who have been infected by other coronaviruses. The fact remains that fewer people are dying of this disease and more are recovering with next to no problems, but the press seems anxious not to report those facts. Former Democratic Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper directed hundreds of thousands of dollars in state grants to technology companies to conduct business in China, including a company having links to economic espionage. -Newt As Governor, Hickenlooper Directed Grants to Tech Companies Doing Business in China By Alana Goodman Washington Free Beacon Colorado grant applications show that former Gov. John Hickenlooper (D-CO) directed $222,000 in state funds to companies looking to expand their footing in China. Among them is Denver-based Intelligent Imaging Innovations, which cited the Chinese government foreign-scientist recruitment program, the Thousand Talents Plan, as part of its grant application in 2017 and 2018. US officials have characterized the plan as a front for Chinese trade-secret theft operations. While running for Senate against incumbent Sen. Cory Gardner (R-CO), Hickenlooper called China a “great nation” that was not seeking global domination. In response, Gardner accused Hickenlooper of being a propaganda tool for the Chinese Communist Party. Intelligent Imaging Innovations indicated that it could market its microscope technology to participants in the Thousand Talents Plan, which aims to attract foreign-trained professionals to China who often bring trade secrets and innovative knowledge with them. Hickenlooper has been a vocal advocate for stronger US-China ties, mentioning that the pace of innovation in China has been “breathtaking.” His comments dismissing China’s imperial ambitions have drawn sharp criticism from Gardner who said that, if Hickenlooper wants to be a tool for China, he is not needed in Colorado. When it comes to tolerance, the left attacks those who disagree with them. Case in point: Saturday's IWF Women's March. -Newt Women’s March Doesn’t Respect Women Who Don’t Think Like Them By Carrie Lukas National Review Over the weekend, the Independent Women’s Forum, in partnership with Independent Women’s Voice, planned an event for women who felt they weren’t represented by the Women’s March. They followed the directions of the authorities and took the appropriate health precautions to ensure everyone was safe during the event. At 1:00 pm, their event kicked off in front of the Supreme Court as other groups, including Black Lives Matter, started assembling around them. The Black Lives Matter crowd used music, chants, and profane, vulgar signs in an attempt to drown out the IWF speakers, confront their attendees, and cause the group to disperse. The speakers tried to carry on nonetheless, but it was pointless. As the event wound down, staffers from the Women’s March pushed their way to the front and onto the stage, completely violating social distancing norms. Eventually, security officials told them to vacate immediately in the interest of security. The constitutional rights of leftist groups to assemble certainly does not trump the rights of other groups to do the same. It was disheartening to see men and women of all ages attempting to silence IWF speakers. While the media attempts to paint the Women’s March as representing the interests of all women, it is nothing but another progressive protest group advocating the defunding of police and the Green New Deal. Given that the Women’s March only attempts to bully and smear its opponents, American women deserve better.
