What Newt’s Reading Nevada's largest newspaper endorses President Trump for re-election. -Newt Review-Journal Endorsement: President of the United States By The Editorial Board Las Vegas Review-Journal We tend to forget that most Americans spend their days focused on their families, work, and friends. They do not clamor for a revolution or to disown the nation’s founders and heritage. While many voters are concerned about President Trump’s brash style, his policy record has been fairly traditional and successful. Despite Joe Biden’s ridiculous attempts to blame President Trump for the current economic downturn, the president’s tax and regulatory reforms unleashed a vibrant period of employment and wage growth for all sections of society prior to the coronavirus pandemic. President Trump also spearheaded the passage of the First Step Act, a bipartisan milestone in criminal justice reform that shortened prison terms for thousands of nonviolent federal inmates and led to commutations for thousands of others, many of them minorities. In the realm of foreign policy, President Trump brokered a historic accord between Israel, Bahrain, and the UAE while putting a spotlight on Chinese aggression and defusing tensions with North Korea. Back on the domestic front, the Senate has already confirmed two of Trump’s distinguished Supreme Court nominees and about 200 of his other judicial appointments, all of whom are constitutionalists. Biden refused to condemn the widespread violence across the country until recently and has proved unable to condemn the far-left wing of his party. For his support of this country’s founding ideals and his pro-growth economic policies, we believe President Trump deserves a second term. Democrats went "all in" on Ilhan Omar and her radical views but now can't get away fast enough. -Newt GOP Deploys Secret Weapon Against Vulnerable Democrats: Ilhan Omar By Seth McLaughlin Washington Times Freshman Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar (D) has become such a polarizing figure that vulnerable incumbent Rep. Collin Peterson (D-MN) is distancing himself from her, even stating that she does not belong in the Democratic Party. Similarly, former Rep. Jason Lewis (R-MN) is running an attack against Sen. Tina Smith featuring Omar calling for the dismantling of the Minneapolis Police Department. Omar, a naturalized US citizen of Somali descent, has earned a reputation as a decidedly progressive critic of the Trump administration. She was heavily criticized when she characterized the Sept. 11 attacks as “some people did something.” In addition, Omar’s personal life has come under scrutiny; the FBI was reportedly investigating whether she married her own brother. Professor Larry Jacobs has argued that Republicans, including President Trump, want Minnesota voters to associate Democratic candidates in the state with Ilhan Omar, hoping it will damage their electoral prospects. Omar’s rising profile has definitely created headaches for vulnerable Democrats, including Rep. Peterson, who has repeatedly argued that it is laughable to call him an ally of Omar. Mitch McConnell is our protector of the Constitution and the courts. -Newt Mitch McConnell Remains the Indispensable Man By Hugh Hewitt Washington Post Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s able stewardship of the upper chamber of the Congress has served as an anchor not just to the Republican Party but also to the country itself. In a deeply divided country, McConnell’s role as a de facto prime minister to President Trump makes him indispensable. Now, as some Democrats have proposed adding new justices to the Supreme Court, abolishing the legislative filibuster, making the District of Columbia a state, and passing radical spending and tax policy, McConnell’s role in stopping these measures is invaluable. McConnell has already scored three major breakthroughs in his fight to save the judiciary: holding the late Justice Antonin Scalia’s seat open until Neil Gorsuch was nominated, extending Harry Reid’s precedent to get Gorsuch confirmed without a partisan filibuster, and getting Brett Kavanaugh confirmed despite the barrage of negative coverage from the media. With the confirmation of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court, he will have so far confirmed three Supreme Court justices and 53 federal appeals court judges, solidifying his reputation as a great constitutionalist. The Trump administration is working to remove Marxist indoctrination from our colleges, government agencies, and even the military. -Newt Trump, Vought, Devos, and Keim Call Out Marxist Indoctrination in Colleges and Gov't Agencies By Robert Knight Washington Times From the president on down, the pushback against Marxist indoctrination in educational institutions and government agencies has begun. In K-12 schools, young children are being exposed to anti-American propaganda as the 1619 Project and other Black Lives Matter materials get incorporated into their curricula. In response, Republican State Sen. Lisa Keim (ME) wrote a letter to the University of Maine System board, objecting to University of Southern Maine President Glenn Cummings’ order for everyone on campus to “align” with Black Lives Matter. She explained that Black Lives Matter’s agenda is antithetical to America’s foundational values and that the movement’s hate is fueling violence across the country. At the federal level, Education Secretary Betsey DeVos threatened to take back federal funds following Princeton University President Christopher Eisgruber’s statement that his campus was full of “systemic racism.” The Trump administration has also banned the teaching of critical race theory, which portrays all white people as racists and America as a fundamentally racist country. The administration has also blocked federal funds from going to contractors, including the military, that teach critical race theory, which has been said to be detrimental to mutual trust and cohesion. If America is going to turn the tide against Marxist race-baiting, it is going to take a coordinated response from state senators to government bureaucrats to the president himself, all of whom must be united in opposition. Gov. Cuomo shows a lack of leadership in his denial of nursing home deaths in New York State. -Newt Andrew Cuomo’s Latest Nursing Home Deception By The Editorial Board New York Post Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) has refused to release data on the number of deaths from the coronavirus in New York nursing homes — a number that increased significantly because of his administration’s order for nursing homes to admit people with the virus. When probed on the subject by a talk show host, Cuomo argued that sick individuals were never sent to nursing homes as New York always had available hospital beds. He went further to claim that, since New York flattened the curve so effectively, sending sick individuals to nursing homes was a situation that never arose. This is flatly untrue. At the outset, nobody knew how many hospital beds would be required for COVID-19 patients. Hence, Cuomo issued an order to relocate less serious COVID-19 patients to nursing homes or other facilities. Accordingly, about 6,300 recovering patients were sent to nursing homes, 58 of which had no COVID-19 cases prior to the order. Even without official numbers, the number of people who died as a result of that decision, including after being transferred to the hospital, is likely to be twice the approximately 6,600 people who died in the homes themselves. Senate Health Committee Chairman Gustavo Rivera (D-Bronx) has a bipartisan bill to force out the data, though the governor’s allies may keep it hidden. To compound matters, Cuomo is working on a book extolling his clear communication and commitment to honesty during pandemic. Given this information, his victory lap is grossly undeserved.
